The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the Chennai City Police on Tuesday filed a cheating case against Chennai Corporation Deputy Mayor M Magesh Kumar and five others including State minister for Cooperation Periyakaruppan’s son-in-law following a complaint from the wife of a deceased businessman from the city. Notably, the Registrar of the South Chennai subdivision named Sathya Priya has also been booked in the case.
Chennai’s Saidapet court ordered the CCB police to file a first information report (FIR) against them based on the suit filed by Esakki Amal, the wife of SR Mohan. In her complaint, she alleged that her husband had been operating a quarry business under ‘Mass Mines’ near Tambaram, along with a few partners for several years. In 2021, Mohan passed away due to health issues. Seeing this as an opportunity, a few of the partners including two individuals, Gunasekaran and Balamurugan were brought in by Deputy Mayor Magesh Kumar as the director of the business, and took over the quarry business entirely without giving any compensation to Mohan’s wife.
