The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a weather forecast warning of heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity in 14 districts of the State. This weather phenomenon is attributed to a cyclonic circulation observed over the sea, which is expected to bring relief from high temperatures in both coastal and interior regions in the days ahead.
The primary meteorological feature responsible for this weather pattern is a cyclonic circulation located over the Comorin area and its surrounding regions, extending up to an altitude of 1.5 kilometers above mean sea level. Additionally, a trough extending from Rayalaseema to the Comorin area, across Tamil Nadu, also up to 1.5 kilometers above mean sea level, has been observed, though it is becoming less pronounced. These atmospheric conditions have prompted a yellow warning for 14 districts in Tamil Nadu.
The 14 districts under the yellow warning include Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Erode, Krishnagiri, Salem, Dharmapuri, Virudhunagar, Sivaganga, Trichy, Namakkal, Karur, Dindigul, Madurai, Tiruppur, and Theni. These regions are expected to experience heavy rainfall over the next two days, necessitating caution and preparedness among residents.
While these 14 districts are expected to witness heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity, the remainder of the state can anticipate light to moderate rainfall in the coming days.
