In a significant achievement for the Southern Railway (SR), the Chennai division has emerged as the frontrunner in revenue collection through ticket-checking among the six divisions. The division collected a staggering Rs 21.92 crore in revenue, the highest among all SR divisions. Between April and October 15, SR, as a whole, managed to amass a substantial sum of Rs 57.48 crore, a testament to the robust ticket-checking initiatives employed across its network. The SR press note sheds light on the distribution of revenue among the divisions after Chennai. Salem division recorded an impressive revenue of Rs 8.15 crore, followed by Madurai with Rs 5.41 crore and Tiruchy with Rs 4.90 crore. This indicates the commitment of SR divisions in ensuring ticket compliance and preventing ticketless travel. To achieve this impressive revenue collection, the Southern Railway has been deploying a range of ticket-checking measures. These include ambush checks, which are designed to prevent the misuse of the alarm chain, fortress checks that monitor passenger entry and exit through authorized gates, and cross-country checks executed by the zonal headquarters squad. On October 15, the flying squad in Chennai division achieved an all-time high in single-day earnings, with a remarkable Rs 22.7 lakh. This feat was accomplished by a squad of 31 dedicated ticket-checking staff who registered an impressive 3,508 cases of ticketless and irregular travel on a Sunday.
