Madras High Court has adjourned the hearing of a suo-motu revision petition against the discharge of Minister KKSSR Ramachandran from a disproportionate asset (DA) case. This case has gained attention for its implications on political and legal matters in the region. The senior counsel, NR Elango, representing Minister KKSSR Ramachandran, argued that there were no valid grounds in the revision petition against his client. Elango expressed confusion over what exactly needed to be defended in the case. In light of these contentions, the counsel sought to revise the suo-motu revision petition.
Following these arguments, Justice G Jayachandran stated that he would examine the matter within the bounds of his jurisdiction. Consequently, the case was adjourned to November 27 for further proceedings.
This legal saga began when, on August 23, Justice Anand Venkatesh reopened the discharge of Minister KKSSR Ramachandran, his wife Aadhilakshmi, and his friend from a DA case that was originally registered in 2011. The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) had alleged that the trio had amassed assets significantly exceeding their known sources of income during Ramachandran’s tenure as a minister from 2006 to 2011 in the DMK regime.
However, in a surprising turn of events, the Srivilliputhur special court discharged KKSSR, his wife, and friend from the DA case after the DMK returned to power in 2021.
