DMK indulging in vendetta politics, slams BJP

In a bid to assert its presence and ideals, the state BJP set an ambitious target of installing 10,000 flagpoles within the span of 100 days, commencing from November 1. This move came in response to the removal of a flagpole outside the residence of BJP’s state president, K Annamalai, on October 21, sparking a contentious debate on the success of Annamalai’s leadership or the alleged vendetta politics by the ruling DMK.Despite the spirited start with approximately 50 flagpoles erected across the state on November 1, the BJP has faced significant challenges. Police intervention resulted in the arrest of party workers attempting to install flagpoles without prior permission. With only about 300 flagpoles planted in the first 14 days of the initiative, questions have arisen regarding the feasibility of achieving the set target.BJP state vice president Karu Nagarajan defended the slow progress, citing difficulties in obtaining permission from the government and police. Nagarajan revealed that 72 flagpoles had been installed in Chennai city and its suburbs, emphasizing the party’s gradual efforts. He accused the DMK government of interfering with democratic processes and undermining law and order.Karu Nagarajan criticized the DMK’s priorities, claiming that while the police focused on preventing the installation of flagpoles, more pressing issues like crime and public safety remained unaddressed. Another BJP vice-president, Narayanan Thirupathy, echoed these sentiments, asserting that despite seeking permission, the state government and police consistently denied approval, leading to the arrests of party members attempting to erect flagpoles.Party insiders, however, reported that approximately 300 flagpoles have been successfully installed across the state despite the challenges posed by police intervention.
