Chennai, known for its tropical climate, faced a severe impact on its flight services on Wednesday as heavy rainfall inundated the city and its suburbs. The Chennai airport experienced disruptions, leading to the delay of 27 flights, both domestic and international. International flights destined for Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Sri Lanka, and Doha, along with domestic flights bound for Port Blair, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Coimbatore, Salem, Tuticorin, Varanasi, Bangalore, Siliguri, and Visakhapatnam, were among those affected by the inclement weather. Airport sources cited multiple reasons for the delays, primarily attributing them to challenges faced by passengers and cabin crew in reaching the airport promptly. The adverse weather conditions hampered transportation, causing delays in the arrival of essential personnel. Additionally, loading luggage and provisioning food onto the aircraft took longer than usual, contributing to the overall disruption. Interestingly, flights scheduled to depart from Chennai were not the only ones affected. Arriving flights from various destinations maintained their punctuality, except for those originating from Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Delhi, and Port Blair, which experienced temporary delays.
