As heavy rains lashed Chennai and various parts of Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister MK Stalin instructed his ministers, MLAs, and local body representatives to offer assistance to the people in the areas, that have been affected by heavy rains. The Greater Chennai Corporation has advised people to travel home safely and stay indoors as much as possible, as heavy rain lashes across the capital city Wednesday. Following heavy rain in the suburbs, the streets were flooded in Tambaram, Chromepet, Pallavaram, Pammal, Peerkankaranai, and Sembakkam on Wednesday. IMD has forecasted that heavy rains will continue till 10.00 pm today. As NortheastMonsoon is active over coastal dists of Tamil Nadu and several districts witnessed intense rain on Wednesday, RMC issued an orange alert for Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, and Villupuram districts. Chennai, Chengalpattu, Thiruvallur, and Kancheepuram districts have declared a holiday for schools tomorrow. Ambattur (54.3 mm) and Kolathur (62.4 mm) received the highest amount of rainfall from 6 pm to 7 pm in the heavy downpour Chennai faced during the evening of Wednesday. The flight services were affected in the Chennai airport following the rain on Wednesday. The release of excess water from Chembarambakkam Lake has been increased to 2,429 cubic feet as the inflow has increased to 1,098 cubic feet. A flood warning has already been issued to low-lying areas along the banks of Adyar. @@@@
