The southern districts of Tamil Nadu faced a relentless onslaught of heavy rainfall for the third consecutive day, severely disrupting train services and leading to the cancellation of over 30 trains. Unprecedented rainfall has particularly impacted districts like Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi, causing substantial damage to crucial routes such as Tirunelveli – Tiruchendur. Although repair work is underway, disruptions persist, affecting the daily commute of countless passengers.
The heavily impacted train routes include Tiruchendur – Tirunelveli, Vanchimaniyachi – Tiruchendur, Tirunelveli–Sengottai, Tirunelveli–Nagercoil, Vanchimaniyacha – Thoothukudi, and Thoothukudi – Tirunelveli. Services on these routes have remained suspended for the third consecutive day, contributing to widespread inconvenience for commuters. However, there is a glimmer of relief as the Chennai Egmore – Tirunelveli Express train has resumed normal operations since yesterday.
Railway officials are working tirelessly to repair the damaged tracks, emphasizing their commitment to restoring normalcy in train services. Despite the challenges posed by the inclement weather, essential measures are being implemented to expedite the resumption of services over the next two days. The rains have subsided, allowing for the removal of excess water from affected areas, aiding the repair efforts.
Acknowledging the inconvenience faced by passengers, Southern Railway assures that every effort is being made to minimize disruptions and restore regular train services.
As the repair work progresses and the weather conditions improve, the Southern Railway anticipates a gradual return to normal operations. The resilience and dedication of railway officials, coupled with the cooperation of the affected communities, will play a pivotal role in overcoming the challenges posed by the adverse weather conditions, ensuring a smoother travel experience for all passengers in the days to come.
