As the clock struck midnight, Tamil Nadu embraced the arrival of 2024 with exuberant music, lively dance, and grand gala celebrations. Throughout the state, people flocked to various venues, including hotels, beach houses, and places of worship, to usher in the New Year.

In Chennai, the vibrant spirit of the festivities was evident along the roads leading to iconic destinations such as Marina Beach and Elliots Beach. Revelers gathered in large numbers, cutting cakes and bursting crackers to mark the joyous occasion. The city’s hotels played a significant role in the celebrations by organizing special music and dance shows, drawing a large and enthusiastic audience.

Ensuring the safety and security of the public, the city police took extensive measures, implementing elaborate security arrangements and issuing detailed instructions to officers. Barricades were strategically placed on important stretches, and traffic was meticulously regulated to avoid any untoward incidents.

Hotels and resorts hosting New Year parties in and around Chennai, including East Coast Road (ECR), Besant Nagar, Marina Beach, Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR), and Mahabalipuram, were under the vigilant eye of deployed police teams. Security was also tightened outside places of worship across the city.

To curb illegal racing activities, twenty-five mobile road safety teams patrolled the streets, complemented by an additional 25 surveillance teams. These efforts aimed to maintain order and safety during the festive celebrations.

Marina Beach, a popular gathering spot, witnessed thousands of people assembling since 8 pm. The atmosphere was charged with excitement, and as the clock struck 12, chants of “Happy New Year” resonated in the air. Warm greetings were exchanged, and special cakes were cut, symbolizing the collective joy that enveloped the crowd.

At several places of worship, special prayers were conducted. Devotees thronged early in the morning today at TTD Devasthanam in T Nagar, Triplicane Parthasarathy Temple, Mylapore Kapleeswarar temple to offer prayers. Temple authorities made elaborate arrangements for hassle-free darshan. Also special masses were held in many churches.

The welcoming of 2024 in Tamil Nadu was not just a transition of time but a spectacle of unity, joy, and shared moments.
