Traffic diversions announced for R-Day rehearsals in city

As the nation prepares to celebrate Republic Day on January 26, the Greater Chennai Traffic Police (GCTP) has announced traffic diversions on January 22 and January 24 due to rehearsals scheduled on Kamarajar Salai. These diversions are expected to impact vehicular movement, necessitating alternative routes for commuters.
On the rehearsal days, Kamarajar Salai, spanning from Gandhi Statue to War Memorial, will be closed for all vehicular traffic starting at 6 am until the conclusion of the event. The traffic police have outlined specific diversions to manage the flow of vehicles during this period.Commercial vehicles coming from Adyar with the intention of proceeding towards Parrys Corner via Kamarajar Salai will be diverted at Greenways Point. The alternative route will take them through R.K. Mutt Road, Thiruvenkadam Street, Devanathan Street, St. Mary’s Road, R.K. Mutt Road, Venkatesa Agragaram Road, Dr.Ranga Road, East Abiramapuram 1st Road, Ramachandra Rao Road, Luz Avenue, Amirthanjan Junction, P.S.Sivasamy Salai, Nilgiris Point, Music Academy, TTK Road, Gowdia Mutt Road, Royapettah High Road, GRH, Tower Clock, GP Road, Anna Salai to reach Broadway.Other vehicles, including M.T.C. Buses from Adyar heading towards Parry Corner via Kamarajar Salai, will be diverted at Gandhi Statue. These vehicles will take a detour through R.K.Salai, Nilgiris Point, Music Academy, TTK Road, Gowdia Mutt Road, Royapettah High Road, GRH, Tower Clock, GP Road, Anna Salai to reach Broadway.Key diversion points include Dr. Natesan Road – Avvai Shanmugam Salai Junction, where no vehicles will be allowed towards Kamarajar Salai. Instead, they will be rerouted towards Ice House Junction. Similarly, vehicles beyond Dr. Besant Road – Dr. Kamarajar Salai Junction and Bharathi Salai – Bells Road Junction towards Kamarajar Salai will be redirected at Ice House junction and towards Bells Road, respectively. Anna Square Bus Terminus will undergo temporary relocation to Chinthtripet Railway Station during this period. For vehicles traveling from Parry’s Corner towards Adyar, a diversion is planned at R.B.I. Subway (North) towards Raja Annamalai Mandram. These vehicles will follow a route through Muthusamy Point, Wallajah Point, Anna Salai, Anna Statue, General Patters Road, Royapettah Tower Clock, West Cott road, GRH, Royapettah High Road, Ajantha Jn (left turn) Lloyds road (VP Raman Road), Justice Jambulingam Street (left or right turn) R.K.Salai, to reach their destination. Additionally, Flag Staff House Road (from Wallajah Point towards War Memorial) will be off-limits for vehicles during the specified period.
