AIADMK to protest seeking action against DMK MLA’s son

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has announced a state-wide protest set for February 1, condemning the alleged inaction of the DMK government against Pallavaram MLA Karunanidhi’s son and daughter-in-law. The protest aims to demand swift and decisive action for their reported assault on a young girl from the Scheduled Caste, treating her in an inhumane manner. In a statement issued on Wednesday, AIADMK leader Palaniswami expressed deep concern over the treatment of the girl, accusing the ruling DMK of overlooking the matter. He asserted that the incident involved the employment of a minor girl from the Scheduled Tribe community, being treated as a bonded laborer, and subjected to severe wounds along with caste-based slurs. Palaniswami criticised the DMK government for allowing such an appalling situation to persist despite laws against human trafficking. He emphasized that the police had filed a case under pressure from civil rights organizations, but the perpetrators, allegedly connected to the ruling party, were yet to be apprehended. Dismissing the government’s claim that the MLA’s son and daughter-in-law were absconding, Palaniswami labeled it a staged drama to shield the culprits.
