In a scathing critique of the ruling DMK government, K Annamalai, the State President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), asserted that the DMK’s commitment to social justice is merely a façade, with actions contradicting their professed ideals.Highlighting a recent incident involving the mistreatment of a Dalit girl by a member of the DMK MLA’s family, Annamalai expressed dismay at the lack of prompt action. “The perpetrators are still at large and are yet to be arrested, showing the true face of this DMK government. For DMK, social justice is a stage talk, and in reality, they are far from delivering it,” he remarked.Drawing attention to other instances, Annamalai cited the Vengaivayal incident and a derogatory incident in Salem where a DMK functionary verbally abused a young man for entering a temple. He also condemned an attack on a girl from the Scheduled Caste community by a DMK MLA’s family in Chennai, portraying these incidents as indicative of the party’s true intentions. On January 18, 2024, the state BJP called for immediate action against Pallavaram DMK MLA I Karunanithi’s son Anto Mathivanan and daughter-in-law Merlin for allegedly harassing, hurting, and causing grievous injuries to a girl belonging to the Scheduled Caste community. Furthermore, Annamalai criticized the DMK government for its alleged indifference towards healthcare issues, specifically addressing the death of a nine-year-old boy at Thoothukudi Government Medical College and Hospital. “Since the DMK came to power in Tamil Nadu, deaths in government hospitals, where poor people are treated, have been a recurring story,” he stated. Annamalai condemned the government and the Health Minister for their perceived lack of concern, stating, “I strongly condemn the ruling DMK for not taking any steps to rectify the problems of Government Hospitals, which are causing many deaths.”
