Chennai, Feb 8: In a recent statement, K S Alagiri, the president of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, vehemently defended the legacies of former Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi, asserting that their contributions to the nation far outweigh those of any contemporary leader, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.Alagiri’s remarks came in response to Prime Minister Modi’s assertion in parliament, where he criticized Nehru and Indira Gandhi for allegedly hindering the nation’s growth by failing to recognize the potential of the Indian people.
Dismissing Modi’s remarks as an attempt to distort historical facts, Alagiri emphasized the pivotal role played by Nehru in shaping India’s trajectory in the aftermath of independence. He credited Nehru’s visionary leadership and tireless efforts for laying the foundation of India’s development, spanning a remarkable 17-year tenure since 1947.
