CCTV cameras enhance security at Perungudi and Taramani MRTS Stations

In a bid to bolster security measures and curb crime, the Southern Railway’s Chennai division has announced plans to install CCTV cameras at Perungudi and Taramani Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) stations by the end of this month. The initiative comes in response to growing concerns over safety, particularly among women commuters, and aims to address issues such as poor lighting and security lapses.
Under the auspices of the Nirbhaya fund, earmarked for enhancing safety and security for women, a total of 26 railway stations, including Perungudi and Taramani, are set to benefit from the installation of over 150 CCTV cameras. This comprehensive surveillance system represents a significant step forward in ensuring the safety and well-being of passengers traversing these crucial transport hubs.
With an allocation of approximately ₹10 crore, the Southern Railway is committed to implementing robust security measures across its network. The installation of CCTV cameras is part of a broader strategy aimed at fortifying security infrastructure and fostering a safe environment for all commuters.
The decision to deploy CCTV cameras follows a series of deliberations and assessments aimed at identifying vulnerable areas and enhancing security protocols. By leveraging technology and modern surveillance systems, railway authorities aim to deter criminal activities, mitigate risks, and promptly respond to any incidents that may arise.
