CMRL work: Traffic diversions near St Thomas Mount

In a bid to ease congestion and facilitate ongoing construction work by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), the Greater Chennai Traffic Police (GCTP) has introduced a series of traffic diversions near St Thomas Mount Railway Station. These diversions, slated to be implemented on a trial basis for a week starting this Wednesday, aim to streamline traffic flow and minimize disruptions caused by the construction activities.

As part of the new traffic arrangements, vehicles approaching from GST Road will now be required to make a left turn towards Alandur Subway. Additionally, heavy vehicles will be restricted from using this route, thereby reducing congestion and ensuring smoother traffic movement in the area.

Furthermore, vehicles coming from MKN Road at the Railway Station road junction will no longer be permitted to proceed straight towards the St Thomas Mount post office. Instead, drivers will be directed to alternative routes to alleviate congestion and ensure the safety of commuters and construction workers alike.

According to the official release by GCTP, motorists approaching from Alandur Subway are advised to either turn right or left to access GST Road, depending on their destination. These measures have been carefully devised to minimize inconvenience to commuters while optimizing traffic flow in the vicinity of the construction site.
