CM unveils welfare schemes

In a significant step towards promoting public health and well-being, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination programme during a virtual ceremony held at the Adyar Cancer Institute’s screening centre within the Villupuram government hospital complex. The initiative, aimed at combating cervical cancer, offers free vaccination to girls aged 9-14 in Villupuram district, marking a pioneering effort in the state. Through video-conference from the Secretariat, Chief Minister Stalin symbolically inaugurated the programme, signaling the government’s commitment to preventive healthcare measures. Under the programme, beneficiaries will receive two doses of the vaccine, with the first phase targeting 2,000 girls. Plans are underway to expand coverage in subsequent phases, underscoring the government’s proactive approach towards addressing public health challenges. In addition to the HPV vaccination programme, Chief Minister Stalin also announced several welfare initiatives aimed at empowering scholars, writers, and marginalized communities. Notably, government orders allocating houses to 10 Tamil scholars and writers, including Su. Venkatesan, were presented under the ‘Dream House Scheme’ (Kanavu illam thittam). Further, administrative approval for housing was sanctioned to writers Indira Parthasarathy and M. Rajendran, reflecting the government’s commitment to providing affordable housing to deserving individuals. Recognizing excellence in journalism, Chief Minister Stalin conferred the prestigious Kalaignar Ezhuthukol Award for 2022 upon senior journalist V.N. Samy, acknowledging his contributions to the field.
