Southern Railway has announced the cancellation of 44 Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) trains to facilitate essential engineering works in the Chennai Egmore and Villupuram section. The engineering works are scheduled to take place between Kodambakkam and Tambaram railway stations on March 17th, from 10:05 am to 3:15 pm.
The cancelled EMU trains include services operating between various key destinations such as Chennai Beach to Tambaram, Chennai Beach to Chengalpattu, Chennai Beach to Arakkonam, Tambaram to Chennai Beach, Chengalpattu to Chennai Beach, and Tirumalpur to Chennai Beach, as per a press release issued by Southern Railway.
In light of the cancelled EMU services, Southern Railway has announced the operation of passenger special trains on alternative routes. These special trains will be operational between Tambaram and Chengalpattu, Chengalpattu and Tambaram, Kanchipuram and Tambaram, and Tirumalpur and Tambaram on the specified date.
Recognizing the potential inconvenience caused by the cancellation of regular EMU services, Chennai Division has taken proactive measures to mitigate the impact on commuters. They have reached out to Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) and Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) to arrange for additional services along the affected routes to cater to the demand of passengers during the specified period.
