As part of the ongoing construction work for the proposed Taramani-Thoraipakkam Metro Station by the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), the Greater Chennai Traffic Police (GCTP) has announced road diversions along the Rajiv Gandhi Salai (Old Mahabalipuram Road) starting from March 16 for a trial period of one week.
To facilitate smooth progress of the construction work and ensure safety for commuters, the following traffic diversions will be implemented:
Restriction on Right Turn at Apollo Junction from Velachery:
Vehicles approaching from Velachery will be restricted from taking a right turn at Apollo junction towards Thoraipakkam. Instead, they will be directed to proceed further and take a U-turn in front of Turya Hotel to access Thoraipakkam and Sholinganallur.
Restriction on Right Turn at Apollo Junction from Adyar and Thiruvanmiyur:
Vehicles coming from Adyar and Thiruvanmiyur will also face restrictions on taking a right turn at Apollo junction towards Velachery. Instead, they will be directed to proceed further and take a U-turn in front of World Trade Centre. From there, they can take a free left turn at Apollo junction to reach Velachery.
These traffic diversions have been carefully planned to minimize disruptions and inconvenience to commuters while ensuring the smooth flow of traffic in the affected areas. The trial period of one week will allow authorities to assess the effectiveness of these diversions and make any necessary adjustments to optimize traffic management strategies.
Motorists are advised to plan their routes in advance, adhere to traffic signs and instructions from officials on the ground, and exercise caution while navigating the affected areas. The GCTP will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as needed to ensure the safety and convenience of all road users, a release said.
