Chennai Metro, MTC extend services for IPL match at Chepauk

As the excitement builds for the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket match at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday, transportation authorities have announced special arrangements to accommodate spectators during the late hours.
The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has decided to extend its services, allowing metro trains to operate for additional hours from 11 pm till 1 am. This decision aims to ensure that cricket fans attending the match have convenient and reliable transportation options to and from the stadium.
In addition to the extended metro services, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) will also operate additional bus services from key bus stands, strategically located near the stadium, to various areas across the city. This move is expected to facilitate the smooth movement of spectators before and after the match, easing congestion on the roads and ensuring a hassle-free commuting experience.
To streamline the ticketing process and expedite boarding, CMRL has implemented special arrangements at Government Estate Metro station and Central Metro station. Passengers can purchase single journey tickets at a flat fare of Rs 40 from Estate station and Rs 50 from Central station. These tickets will enable passengers to exit at any station within the metro network, providing flexibility and convenience to commuters.
It’s important to note that after 11 pm, train services will commence only from Estate station towards Central station. However, passengers can interchange to the green line, heading towards Anna Nagar and Koyambedu, at Central Metro station. This measure ensures efficient crowd management and smooth operations during the late-night hours.
