DMK lodges complaint with ECI against BJP

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party has taken a strong stance against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), lodging a complaint with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEO) for purportedly engaging in corrupt practices and breaching the model code of conduct ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
According to the DMK’s organising secretary R S Bharathi, the BJP allegedly issued an advertisement on the website https://pollsurvey.top/ with the headline ‘@2024BJP’. The advertisement featured the tagline ‘BJP-Election Bonus’, and its contents conveyed ‘Congratulations! BJP Election Bonus’. Bharathi highlighted this as a blatant violation of Section 123 of the Representation of People Act 1951 and the compendium of instructions on Model Code of Conduct (MCC) 2024.
Section 123 of the Representation of People Act 1951 prohibits activities deemed as “corrupt practices” and offenses under election laws, including bribing or intimidating voters. The MCC 2024 mandates that all political parties and candidates must strictly avoid engaging in such activities.
Expressing grave concern over the alleged violation, Bharathi urged the Chief Election Commissioner to take appropriate action against the BJP. He emphasized the importance of upholding the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring that all parties adhere to the legal framework governing elections.
