Seeman claims EC exhibiting bias

Seeman, the chief coordinator of Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), launched a scathing attack on the Election Commission of India (ECI), accusing it of bias in symbol allocation. Seeman’s remarks came as he introduced his party’s symbol, the ‘mike,’ highlighting a perceived discrepancy in the allocation process.According to Seeman, the ECI favored certain political entities within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) by allocating them symbols such as the ‘cycle’ and the ‘pressure cooker.’ He alleged that had he agreed to join the NDA, his party would have been allotted the ‘sugarcane farmer’ symbol, implying a preferential treatment towards alliance members.Seeman’s criticism reflects a broader discontent with the electoral system, with allegations of bias and unfair practices tarnishing the democratic process. He questioned the rationale behind symbol allocation, particularly citing instances where symbols associated with specific parties were allotted to others within the alliance.The NTK’s symbol, the ‘mike,’ has become synonymous with the party’s identity since its introduction in the political arena. Since the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the party has contested under the ‘sugarcane farmer’ symbol, garnering significant support, especially among the youth, particularly in rural Tamil Nadu. In the 2021 Assembly polls, the party secured an impressive vote share of 6.58%, further solidifying its presence in the state’s political landscape.
