Tragedy strikes as roof collapses at Chennai’s pub, Claims 3 lives

A devastating incident unfolded on Thursday evening in Chennai’s up-market area of Alwarpet, as a portion of the roof on the first floor of the Sekhmet pub collapsed, resulting in the tragic loss of three lives. The victims, identified as migrant workers, were caught under the debris, leading to their untimely demise. One individual was fortunate to be rescued but succumbed to injuries upon reaching the government Royapettah Hospital.
The collapse prompted a swift response from local authorities, with a police team under the supervision of the east Chennai joint commissioner of police, G Dharmarajan, promptly arriving at the scene to oversee rescue operations. Three ‘108’ ambulances were stationed nearby, ready to transport any survivors to medical facilities for urgent treatment. Despite the valiant efforts of emergency responders, the outcome remained tragic, with lives lost and families left grieving.
In the aftermath of the incident, speculation arose regarding the cause of the roof collapse, with some attributing it to the ongoing construction work at the nearby Boat Club Metro Station, located less than 50 feet away from the Sekhmet pub. However, metro rail officials refuted these claims, asserting that the metro station construction was progressing as scheduled. They clarified that tunnelling work had commenced from multiple points, with no indication of any direct correlation between the construction activities and the tragic event at the pub.
