Temperature set to soar in TN: IMD

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning indicating a potential rise in temperatures across Tamil Nadu over the next five days, with mercury levels expected to reach as high as 109 degrees Fahrenheit.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the IMD highlighted the likelihood of significant temperature fluctuations in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal regions. The department forecasts a notable increase in maximum temperatures, particularly in the North-Eastern districts of the state, where temperatures could surge by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius above normal until May 1st.
Subsequently, on May 2 and 3, the North districts of Tamil Nadu are anticipated to experience a further increase in temperatures, with levels soaring by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius above the usual averages.
For the ensuing five days, the IMD predicts maximum temperatures ranging between 39 and 43 degrees Celsius (102.2 and 109.4 degrees Fahrenheit) in select interior districts of Tamil Nadu.
While the heatwave intensifies, the IMD also noted the prevalence of a low atmospheric circulation over Southeast areas. Consequently, light rainfall is forecasted in Kanniyakumari and Tirunelveli districts until May 1st.
Moreover, on May 2, light rain is expected in certain areas of the Western Ghats in Tamil Nadu. Moving forward, from May 3 to 5, there remains a possibility of light rainfall in isolated spots across the Western Ghats and North-Eastern districts, as outlined in the press release.
As temperatures soar and rainfall remains sporadic, residents are advised to take necessary precautions to combat the impending heatwave and stay updated with official weather advisories issued by the IMD.
