PMK raises concerns over power-cuts in TN

Senior leader and PMK founder, S. Ramadoss, has raised concerns over the frequent and unannounced power cuts plaguing Tamil Nadu, urging the government to take immediate measures to increase power generation. In a statement, Ramadoss highlighted the detrimental impact of these power outages on senior citizens and children, who are suffering from sleep deprivation.

Ramadoss condemned the government’s failure to address the escalating demand for electricity, which has led to power cuts ranging from one to four hours in districts across the state, excluding Chennai and its neighboring areas. He emphasized that residents are facing additional challenges due to low voltage issues, preventing them from using essential appliances like air conditioners and electric fans.

With Tamil Nadu’s power demand reaching a staggering 21MW per day, Ramadoss stressed the urgency for proactive measures to bridge the growing gap between supply and demand. Despite procuring power from private sources, the state continues to experience a daily shortage of 300MW to 400MW.

Ramadoss criticized Tangedco and the government for their failure to anticipate and address the surge in power demand, particularly during the summer season. He called for immediate action to enter into agreements with private generators to meet the escalating demand and ensure uninterrupted power supply to residents.

Highlighting the state’s potential for self-sufficiency in power generation, Ramadoss underscored the need for swift action to revive stalled projects and expedite the implementation of new initiatives. Despite proposals to generate 17,340MW of power and the initiation of works for 5,700MW since 2014, significant delays and hurdles have hindered progress.

Ramadoss emphasized the critical importance of resolving the power crisis to prevent further inconvenience to residents and bolster Tamil Nadu’s path towards self-sustainability in energy production. He urged the government to prior
