‘Savukku’ Shankar says he will be killed in Kovai prison

Controversial YouTuber and whistleblower ‘Savukku’ Shankar has raised alarm bells about his safety, claiming that he faces imminent danger of being killed while incarcerated in Coimbatore central jail.

Shankar, who has been embroiled in multiple legal battles and arrests, was taken from Coimbatore central jail to the government medical college hospital on Monday for a medical examination. During the transit, he expressed anger and repeatedly voiced concerns about his well-being within the prison walls.

In a video clip captured by media personnel, Shankar alleged that the Superintendent of Coimbatore Central Prison, Senthil Kumar, was responsible for breaking his hand. He went on to declare, “My life is in danger, I will be murdered in Coimbatore jail.” Shankar was seen sporting a cast on his right arm, which he had fractured a few days prior.

These alarming statements come on the heels of claims made by Shankar’s advocate, S Gopalakrishnan, who asserted that the YouTuber’s life was under threat inside the prison due to alleged acts of vendetta and torture by police officials. Gopalakrishnan further alleged that Shankar’s right arm was fractured as a result of an assault by law enforcement officers while in custody. Notably, Superintendent Senthil Kumar, formerly in charge of the prison in Cuddalore during Shankar’s previous imprisonment, now holds the same position at Coimbatore central jail.

Shankar’s recent arrest on May 4 by the Coimbatore police stemmed from derogatory comments he made about women police officials during an interview on the YouTube channel ‘Red Pix 24×7’. The CEO of the channel, Felix Gerald, conducted the interview.
