Anbumani calls for free travel for on-duty police

PMK President Anbumani Ramadoss has called on the Tamil Nadu government to implement free travel for on-duty police personnel, pointing out the penalties being imposed on government buses across the state following an incident between a police officer and a bus conductor.
In a statement, Anbumani highlighted that the transport department had announced free travel for police officers provided they possess a permit warrant. However, he noted that more than 200 buses have since been fined, which he perceived as a retaliatory action.
“This situation could be avoided if the government allows free travel for police officers,” Anbumani said, emphasizing that both police and transport employees are serving the public and should not be at odds with each other.
He also reminded the public that Chief Minister MK Stalin had previously announced free travel for police within their respective districts. Despite this announcement, the government order to formalize the decision has yet to be issued even three years later.
Anbumani urged the Chief Minister to intervene in the matter to ensure that a government order allowing free travel for police personnel is issued promptly. This, he believes, would help avoid unnecessary enmity between the police and transport staff and foster better cooperation between the two essential services.
