In a bid to streamline and expedite ongoing projects, the Greater Che29:nnai Corporation (GCC) has initiated talks with various departments, including the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) and the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco). The aim is to facilitate better coordination among departments and contractors to ensure timely completion of projects.
Corporation Commissioner J. Radhakrishnan emphasized the need for regular review of projects that have exceeded their timelines. He instructed officials to closely monitor progress and follow up with contractors to expedite completion. Projects found lacking necessary approvals, such as setbacks or floor-level projections, will be halted to mitigate risks associated with proximity to electricity lines, ensuring the safety of both workers and residents.
To enhance transparency and accountability, officials have been tasked with providing detailed information on projects, including responsible departments and the exact stretches involved. Timelines for road cut restoration and tentative completion dates must also be specified, facilitating efficient project management.
Dr. Radhakrishnan stressed the importance of minimizing inconvenience to the public during construction. Traffic diversion boards with clear routes and guidance for alternative paths to essential facilities like hospitals, schools, and public transportation will be installed to mitigate disruptions. Partial restoration work will be prioritized to ensure motorable roads even if certain aspects of the project are pending completion.
