Chennai has made significant strides in the startup ecosystem, earning notable positions in the latest rankings released by Startup Genome, a leading startup intelligence organization, during London Tech Week on Monday.
Chennai ranked 18th in the Asia regional rankings and was placed in the 21-30 range in the emerging ecosystem rankings. The city has also been recognized globally for its affordability and talent, securing a spot in the top 25 worldwide and the top 10 in Asia for affordable talent. Additionally, Chennai ranked in the top 15 in Asia for performance, which measures tech startup value from exits and funding, and in the top 20 in Asia for funding, which evaluates early-stage funding and investor activity.
Furthermore, Chennai appeared in the top 25 ecosystems in Asia for talent and experience, showcasing the city’s growing prominence in the startup landscape.
The report highlighted that Tamil Nadu generated $27.4 billion in ecosystem value from July 1, 2021, to December 31, 2023. This value represents the economic impact calculated from exits and startup valuations, underscoring the region’s significant contribution to the global startup economy.
