Hotel owner held for involvement in hooch tragedy


In a significant development in the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy, which has claimed 57 lives so far, police have arrested a hotel owner for his involvement in the illicit liquor operation. The owner, identified as Sakthivel, allegedly allowed his firm’s GST number to be misused to facilitate the purchase of methanol.

According to report, Sakthivel provided his GST number to the main accused, Mathesh, to earn a quick commission. This fraudulent activity enabled Mathesh to buy methanol, a key ingredient used in the production of the deadly illicit liquor.

The investigation revealed that Mathesh purchased 1,000 litres of methanol on three separate occasions, which he then transported to a private factory in Virudhachalam. CCTV footage has surfaced showing Mathesh collecting the methanol, further incriminating him in the operation.

The primary suspect, Sivakumar, was apprehended from his hideout in MGR Nagar, Chennai. The police are continuing their investigation to uncover the full extent of the network involved in this tragic incident.

Officials have expressed their commitment to bringing all responsible parties to justice and preventing such tragedies in the future.
