Hooch tragedy: ‘Arrested bootlegger not from AIADMK’

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has firmly denied allegations that a bootlegger arrested in Kallakurichi is a current member of the party. In a recent statement, VP Sekar, the party’s Attur union secretary, clarified the situation surrounding S Suresh, also known as Suresh Kumar, 40, who was detained in connection with a prohibition case.
According to Sekar, Suresh Kumar had initially joined the AIADMK after resigning from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in 2018. However, due to his anti-party activities, he was subsequently expelled from the AIADMK. This expulsion highlights the party’s stance against any form of misconduct among its members.
Meanwhile, the cadre from DMDK lodged a protest in Madurai on Tuesday condemning the state government for the hooch tragedy, which claimed more than 60 lives in Kallakurichi.
They raised slogans claiming that 60 persons lost their lives as they became victims of the hooch tragedy in Kallakurichi and still many others, who consumed it, are under treatment.
They appealed to Chief Minister MK Stalin to resign from his post taking moral responsibility for the deaths.
