CMRL sees footfall of 84.33 lakh in June


Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) registered an impressive footfall of 84.33 lakh passengers in June, reflecting a consistent increase in ridership over the past months. This is a slight increase from the 84.21 lakh passengers recorded in May and significantly higher than the 80.87 lakh footfall in April.

June 21 marked a notable peak for CMRL, with the highest single-day passenger count of 3.27 lakh.

The data released by CMRL also highlighted the diverse ticketing options utilized by passengers:

31.33 lakh passengers used travel cards.
1.86 lakh passengers used Online QR codes.
2.55 lakh passengers used static QR codes.
21.30 lakh passengers used paper QR codes.
4.06 lakh passengers used Paytm.
4.33 lakh passengers used the WhatsApp ticketing system.
2.72 lakh passengers used PhonePe.
20,649 passengers used the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).
30,752 passengers used tokens.
3,757 passengers used group ticketing.
15.61 lakh passengers used the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) / Singara Chennai Card.

CMRL’s ridership data for the year so far has shown a strong and steady increase:

84.63 lakh passengers in January
86.15 lakh passengers in February
86.82 lakh passengers in March
80.87 lakh passengers in April
84.21 lakh passengers in May
To encourage more commuters to use the metro, CMRL is offering a 20 percent discount on all ticketing options, including Metro travel cards, mobile QR code ticketing (single, return, group tickets, and QR trip passes), WhatsApp, Paytm, and PhonePe.

Passengers can book their tickets through the CMRL WhatsApp ticketing system (+91 83000 86000) and Paytm, making the process more convenient and accessible.

These initiatives are part of CMRL’s ongoing efforts to enhance the commuter experience and boost ridership, positioning Chennai Metro as a preferred mode of transportation in the city.
