In response to the growing number of Class XII students with high marks facing challenges in securing admissions, the Tamil Nadu Higher Education Department has introduced measures to increase seat capacities in Arts and Science colleges across the state. This initiative aims to provide more opportunities for deserving students and streamline the admission process for the upcoming academic year.

According to Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudy, government colleges will increase their seat capacity by 20%, government-aided colleges by 15%, and self-financing institutions by 10%. This decision comes amidst concerns that many qualified students were unable to secure placements in their preferred colleges due to limited seats.

Colleges are directed to admit additional students based on the recent rank list provided by the Directorate of Collegiate Education. Students eligible for these additional seats may receive spot admissions based on merit lists. To facilitate smooth admissions, student facilitation centers have been established across districts to provide guidance and support to applicants navigating the process.

The initiative underscores Tamil Nadu’s commitment to inclusive education and addressing the aspirations of academically proficient students. By expanding seat capacities in Arts and Science colleges, the state aims to bridge the gap between
