Trichy Grand Cholas win Big in TNPL 2024

Salem, July 10: Trichy Grand Cholas delivered a commanding performance in TNPL 2024, securing a convincing 67-run victory over Siechem Madurai Panthers at Salem Cricket Foundation Ground.

Choosing to bat first, Trichy initially struggled, scoring just 69 runs in the first 10 overs. However, the game turned dramatically when Waseem Ahmed, playing only his second TNPL match, and Sanjay Yadav came together. They formed an unbroken partnership of 126 runs, steering Cholas to a formidable total of 193/2. Ahmed impressed with an unbeaten 90 off 55 balls, including seven boundaries and five sixes, while Yadav contributed a rapid 60 not out off 33 balls, embellished with three fours and four sixes.

In reply, Madurai Panthers faced an uphill battle from the start of their chase. Despite skipper Hari Nishaanth’s spirited 39 off just 20 balls, Panthers struggled to keep up with the required run rate. Nishaanth’s departure, caught off Yadav’s bowling after a cramp hindered his rhythm, marked a turning point as Panthers faltered to 84/5 in 9.1 overs.

Cholas capitalized on the momentum, maintaining tight bowling and fielding discipline. Yadav’s three-wicket haul for 28 runs was pivotal as Panthers were eventually bowled out for 126, securing a comprehensive victory for Trichy Grand Cholas.

This win not only breaks Trichy’s winless streak since July 2022 but also highlights their resilience and potential in TNPL 2024. With Ahmed and Yadav leading the charge, Cholas aim to build on this momentum for upcoming matches, establishing themselves as strong contenders in the tournament.
