In a significant development, three more individuals have been arrested in connection with the murder of Tamil Nadu Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief K Armstrong earlier this month, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to 14. The latest arrests include Satish, Malarkodi, and Hariharan, shedding further light on the intricate and organized nature of the crime.
According to police sources, Malarkodi was apprehended after a thorough investigation of the bank accounts of another accused, Arul. The investigation revealed that Malarkodi had received a large sum of money, allegedly used to purchase country bombs. Classified as a C Category rowdy, Malarkodi’s involvement indicates a deep-rooted criminal nexus. Satish and Hariharan were arrested for assisting Malarkodi in her activities.
The police are still on the lookout for two more suspects, Anjalai and Selvaraj, who are believed to be connected to the murder.
On July 5, K Armstrong was brutally murdered by six unidentified assailants near his residence in Chennai’s Perambur area. The attackers, riding motorcycles, hacked Armstrong with knives and left him critically injured on the road. Despite being rushed to a nearby private hospital, Armstrong was declared brought dead upon arrival. Initial investigations suggested that the murder was motivated by previous enmity and revenge.
A day after the murder, the Chennai Police, led by Additional Commissioner (North) Asra Garg, arrested eight suspects: Ponnai Bala, Ramu, Thiruvengadam, Thirumalai, Selvaraj, Manivannnan, Santhosh, and Arul. These arrests marked the beginning of a comprehensive investigation into the murder, uncovering a web of criminal activities and associations.
