In a recent development, BJP state president K Annamalai has criticized retired Justice K Chandru for his remarks against the BJP. Annamalai’s comments were in response to Justice Chandru’s statements made at a book fair in Hosur, where he implied that fascists historically fear an educated society, indirectly referring to Annamalai and other BJP leaders’ criticism of his education report.
Justice Chandru’s report on education has been a subject of contention, particularly Recommendation No. 19 (c), which mentions “saffronization.” This term has sparked significant debate, with Annamalai arguing that the inclusion of such language reveals Justice Chandru’s political leanings and the underlying purpose of the report.
Annamalai suggested that if Justice Chandru wishes to engage in politics, he should formally join the ruling DMK. “In a democracy, it is the duty of a responsible opposition to support or oppose the government’s public-oriented activities. We are against imposing DMK’s policies on the student community,” Annamalai stated in a social media post.
He further accused Justice Chandru of transforming into the DMK’s Policy Outreach Secretary due to his inability to tolerate objections to his report. “He should at least realise that if DMK’s policies are given as a government’s report, there will be protests and criticism from the public,” Annamalai added.
The education report authored by Justice Chandru has been a point of contention between the BJP and the DMK. The BJP has been vocal in its opposition to what it sees as attempts to impose DMK’s policies on the student community. Annamalai’s latest remarks highlight the ongoing political friction between the parties, especially concerning educational reforms and policies.
