On Wednesday, AIADMK MLA Sellur K Raju (Madurai West) criticized the ruling DMK government for the recent hike in electricity tariffs, describing it as a “gift” to the people who voted them into power. He highlighted that this is the third increase in electricity tariffs since the DMK assumed office.
Raju also pointed out that the DMK government has increased the tax burden on citizens, exacerbating the financial strain on households. In response to these measures and the recent political murders in the state, the AIADMK high command has called for a statewide protest on July 23.
Speaking to reporters in Madurai, Raju expressed concerns about the safety of political leaders, noting that many are afraid to walk the streets in the morning. Commenting on efforts by deposed leaders VK Sasikala and O Panneerselvam to unite the party, Raju urged people to “wait and see,” hinting at potential developments. He praised AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, likening his political acumen to that of Chanakya, an ancient Indian strategist known for his cunning and foresight.
Raju highlighted that when Palaniswami became Chief Minister, the opposition doubted the longevity of his government, predicting it wouldn’t last more than a few months. Despite these criticisms, Palaniswami successfully completed his four and a half year term.
Raju confidently asserted that the AIADMK is poised to return to power in the 2026 Assembly election, suggesting that the party’s leadership and strategies will resonate with
