Governor R.N. Ravi has given his assent to five bills passed in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, including one that amends the rules for upgrading municipalities to corporations.One of the approved bills aims to amend the procedures for upgrading local bodies, allowing necessary towns to be elevated to the status of town panchayats, municipalities, and municipal corporations. This amendment is part of the Urban Local Bodies Amendment Bill.
Additionally, another bill related to urban local bodies was passed, addressing the handling of assets and tax regulations of village panchayats that are merged when municipalities expand.

An amendment raising the retirement age limit for the chairperson of the State Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes from 70 to 75 years and an amendment making it mandatory to obtain sewage connections.
