The Madras High Court has rejected former minister Vaigaichelvan’s plea to quash an election violation case filed against him.During the 2021 legislative assembly elections, a case was registered against Vaigaichelvan, a former AIADMK minister, at the Vachakarapatti police station for campaigning in Virudhunagar after 10:00 PM, which is a violation of election rules.
Vaigaichelvan filed a petition in the High Court seeking to quash this case.
The petition came up for hearing before Justice Jayachandran. Advocate Ayyapparaj, representing Vaigaichelvan, argued that the case was filed as a political vendetta. He noted that even after three years, a final report had not been filed.
Government advocate Mugilan, representing the police, countered that the final report had indeed been filed, albeit with some delay, and a petition had been submitted to accept it.
Since the final report in the case had been filed, Justice Jayachandran refused to quash the case and dismissed the petition filed by Vaigaichelvan.
