The Tamil Nadu government announced on Sunday that the state has excelled in local administration due to the extensive development schemes implemented by the Stalin-led DMK government over the past three years. The release highlighted several key projects and initiatives that have significantly improved infrastructure and quality of life in the state.One of the flagship initiatives, the Town Panchayat Development Scheme, saw an investment of Rs 2,391.72 crore over the last three years. This scheme has been pivotal in upgrading various localities and ensuring sustainable development across Tamil Nadu.
The release detailed several major projects, including:
Road Development Projects: With a total expenditure of Rs 1,414 crore, numerous road development projects have been undertaken to enhance connectivity and improve transportation within the state.
Kalaignar Urban Development Scheme: This initiative received Rs 1,412 crore, aimed at comprehensive urban development, addressing the needs of growing urban populations.
New Bus Stands and Markets: The government allocated Rs 201.5 crore for the construction of new bus stands and markets, facilitating better public transportation and commerce.
LED Street Lights: An investment of Rs 155.56 crore was made to fix LED street lights, improving energy efficiency and enhancing safety in urban areas.
Iyothee Thass Residence Development Scheme: This housing initiative, with a budget of Rs 51.81 crore, aimed at providing quality housing in 490 town panchayats across the state.
The Town Panchayat administration has been working diligently to improve the quality of life for residents, upgrade basic infrastructure facilities, and create employment opportunities. These initiatives are deemed critical for addressing the needs of a growing urban population and fostering sustainable development.
“Various schemes are being implemented in the Local Administration department to provide the amenities needed by the people. Due to the multiple welfare schemes of the Stalin-led DMK government, Tamil Nadu excelled in India in the Local Administration,” the release stated.
