Heavy rain lashed Chennai and its suburbs on Tuesday night, bringing much-needed relief from the recent heatwave. Several areas across the city and its outskirts experienced substantial rainfall, leading to waterlogging in some low-lying areas.
The downpour, which began late in the evening, continued for several hours, with many parts of Chennai receiving a good amount of rain. Suburban regions, including Tambaram, Velachery, and Avadi, also recorded significant rainfall, much to the relief of residents.
While the rain provided a respite from the sweltering weather, it also led to minor disruptions in traffic due to water accumulation on roads. The city’s drainage systems were put to the test, with authorities closely monitoring the situation to prevent any major flooding.
The Meteorological Department has forecasted more showers in the coming days, with the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall in some areas. Residents have been advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
The rains are expected to benefit the city’s water reservoirs, which have been at lower levels due to the dry spell earlier in the season. The authorities are hopeful that the rainfall will contribute to an improvement in the city’s water supply situation.
