A review meeting on the development of Tamil Nadu’s tourism sector was held yesterday at the Tourism Department office on Walajah Road in Chennai. The meeting was chaired by Tourism Minister K. Ramachandran and attended by senior officials, including Secretary Chandramohan and Managing Director Samayamoorthy.During the meeting, officials from the tourism department provided updates on the current state of tourism in Tamil Nadu. They reported that 1.174 million foreign tourists visited the state last year. For the first half of this year, from January to June, 645,296 foreign tourists have already visited Tamil Nadu, indicating a steady influx of international visitors.
On the domestic front, Tamil Nadu welcomed 2.86 billion domestic tourists last year. In the first six months of this year alone, 1.549 billion domestic tourists have visited the state, showcasing the state’s continued popularity as a tourist destination.
The discussions at the meeting focused on strategies to further enhance tourism infrastructure and attract more visitors to Tamil Nadu. The minister and officials deliberated on various initiatives to sustain the growth in both domestic and international tourist arrivals.
