Chief Minister M.K. Stalin issued orders yesterday upgrading the municipalities of Thiruvannamalai, Namakkal, Pudukottai, and Karaikudi to municipal corporations. Additionally, orders were issued to elevate the town panchayats of Sriperumbudur, Mamallapuram, and Thiruvaiyaru to municipalities.
On behalf of the Department of Municipal Administration and Water Supply, the Chief Minister inaugurated 103 completed projects worth ₹770 crore and laid the foundation for 30 new projects with an estimated cost of ₹1,192.45 crore.
As part of the event, 10 new Bolero vehicles worth ₹1.05 crore were provided to the administrative engineers of the Water Supply and Drainage Board, and 58 sewage removal vehicles worth ₹28.55 crore were purchased for the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board. The Chief Minister flagged off the service for these vehicles yesterday.
The event was attended by Ministers K.N. Nehru, E.V. Velu, Periyakaruppan, Chennai Mayor Priya, Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena, Secretary of Municipal Administration and Water Supply Karthikeyan, and Municipal Commissioner Kumaragurubaran.
In other developments, a new building and hostel have been constructed at the Government Law College in Ramanathapuram at a cost of ₹76.60 crore. The facilities include 26 classrooms, a seminar hall, an indoor sports arena, a moot court hall, and an auditorium.
Additionally, a football and cricket field have been developed at the Government Law College campus in Pattaraiperumpudur, Thiruvallur district, and at the Chennai Ambedkar Government Law College campus at a cost of ₹1.57 crore. These facilities were inaugurated by Chief Minister Stalin yesterday in the presence of Minister Raghupathi, Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena, Law Secretary George Alexander, and Director of Legal Education Vijayalakshmi.
