Varun Tej is set to make his Pan-India debut with Matka, which also stands as his most expensive film to date. Directed by Karuna Kumar and produced by Dr. Vijender Reddy Teegala and Rajani Thalluri under the banners of Vyra Entertainments and SRT Entertainments, the film is being crafted on a grand scale. Current production activities are underway in Hyderabad.The makers have recently unveiled the first look poster of Matka, showcasing Varun Tej in dual avatars—one as a youthful figure and the other as a middle-aged man. The film will chronicle the protagonist’s journey over 24 years, featuring him in four distinct looks. The poster highlights two contrasting phases of the character’s life: from an underdog to an influential overlord.
In the poster, Varun Tej appears dashing and intense in his younger look, smoking a cigar, with vintage attire and hairstyle. The other image presents him as an older, affluent individual, also smoking a cigar, with spectacles and grey hair, signifying his rise to power. The use of the King card from playing cards as the background further accentuates the character’s royal status.
The first look has been met with high praise for its impactful presentation, signaling a return to roles that fans eagerly anticipate. Matka also stars Meenakshi Chaudhry and Nora Fatehi in leading roles and is set against a period backdrop.
The film’s technical team includes A Kishor Kumar for cinematography, GV Prakash Kumar for music, and Karthika Srinivas R for editing. Matka is scheduled for a multilingual release in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada, promising a wide-reaching cinematic experience.
