Controversial YouTuber ‘Savukku’ Shankar has been detained under the Goondas Act once more, this time following accusations of possessing ganja. The move to detain him under this stringent law comes just days after the Madras High Court quashed a previous preventive detention order against him.
The decision to detain Shankar was made on the recommendation of Superintendent of Police R. Shiva Prasad and was ordered by Theni Collector R.V. Shajeevana. Shankar is currently lodged in Madurai Central Prison.
The YouTuber, known for his outspoken views and frequent clashes with authorities, has been in the crosshairs of the government for some time. His arrest under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act on May 4, along with two associates, marked a new chapter in his ongoing legal battles.
The recent detention order under the Goondas Act is significant, given that the Madras High Court had only recently intervened to quash a similar order.
