In response to the spread of monkeypox in Central and West African countries, the Tamil Nadu Health Department conducted a review meeting yesterday, led by Health Secretary Supriya Sahu, at the Secretariat in Chennai. The meeting focused on discussing various precautionary measures to prevent the virus from entering the state.According to a press release issued by the Health Department, there have been no reported cases of monkeypox in Tamil Nadu. However, given the presence of the virus in neighboring countries, the state is taking proactive steps to prepare for any potential threat. The review meeting covered important topics such as medical surveillance, isolation of affected individuals, and treatment protocols in accordance with established guidelines.
The King Institute in Chennai has been designated by the Central Government as an authorized laboratory for confirming monkeypox cases.
Health Secretary Supriya Sahu emphasized the importance of raising awareness about monkeypox and ensuring that healthcare professionals are adequately trained. She called for the organization of workshops and training sessions to better equip medical personnel in the state.
These measures are part of the Tamil Nadu government’s ongoing efforts to safeguard public health and prevent the spread of monkeypox within the state.
