Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday issued appointment orders to 1,474 healthcare workers, including pharmacists and vocational counselors, selected through the Medical Services Recruitment Board (MRB). In a symbolic gesture, the Chief Minister personally handed over appointment orders to seven individuals during the event.The distribution of these appointment orders is part of the Tamil Nadu government’s ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare services across the state. Various initiatives are being undertaken to ensure high-quality medical care for the people of Tamil Nadu. These initiatives include the construction of new government hospitals and primary health centers, upgrading the infrastructure of existing healthcare facilities, installing advanced medical equipment, filling vacant positions, and implementing welfare programs.
Notably, initiatives like the “Innu Uyir Kaappom – Nammai Kaakkum – 48” road safety program and the “Medical Mission” are key components of these efforts to improve public health services in the state.
Since May 2021, a total of 4,293 appointments have been made across various healthcare roles through different recruitment boards. Of these, 1,947 assistant doctors and 1,291 other medical staff were selected through the MRB. Additionally, 628 junior assistants, 220 stenographers, 12 health inspectors, and 5 vaccine stock keepers have been recruited through the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission.
The state health department recently identified 946 vacant pharmacist positions and submitted the list to the MRB. The selection process for these positions was conducted in accordance with government guidelines, ensuring that all required pharmacist positions have been filled.
In a similar effort, interviews were conducted for 523 assistant positions based on vacancy evaluations for the period from 2018-2019 to 2022-2023, as notified by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission. These positions have also been successfully filled, with Chief Minister Stalin personally distributing appointment orders to three individuals on Tuesday.
In addition to pharmacists, candidates with a master’s degree in psychology or a postgraduate degree in guidance and counseling have been selected for the position of vocational counselor. Five new counselors will work at government medical college hospitals and government rehabilitation and medical facilities across the state.
The event on Tuesday was attended by Health Minister Ma Subramanian, Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam, Health Secretary Supriya Sahu, and other senior officials, highlighting the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare services in Tamil Nadu.
