London, Aug 21: World No. 1 tennis player Jannik Sinner tested positive for a banned steroid in March but has avoided suspension. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) confirmed that an independent tribunal ruled the violation unintentional.
Sinner, who tested positive twice for the steroid Clostebol during the Indian Wells tournament, explained that the substance was accidentally introduced by a member of his support team using an over-the-counter spray for a wound. The ITIA accepted this explanation, leading to a decision of “No Fault or Negligence,” allowing him to continue competing.
Sinner, who recently won the Cincinnati Open, expressed relief and is focusing on the upcoming U.S. Open.
