Tambaram railway station has officially resumed operations following a significant month-long renovation project that began on July 23. The extensive upgrades have modernized the station, including the widening of platforms, the addition of new seating arrangements, and an extension to accommodate 24-coach trains. These improvements are designed to enhance the overall passenger experience and increase efficiency. One of the key updates includes the installation of a new foot-overbridge and the upgrading of tracks, which has allowed trains to increase their speed from 15 km/h to 50 km/h. This is expected to improve the punctuality and reliability of train services.
While the major renovation work has been completed, some minor tasks are still pending. Commuters have requested that these final touches be completed during weekends and holidays to minimize disruption to weekday services.
The station, a crucial hub for both suburban and long-distance trains in Chennai, has resumed operations for EMU and express trains as of Monday. Platforms 7 and 8 have been extended, and battery-operated vehicles will now service these platforms. Additionally, new platforms 9 and 10 are expected to be operational in the coming weeks.
The enhancements at Tambaram railway station aim to better serve the increasing number of passengers and improve the overall efficiency of the station’s operations.
