Minister for Public Works Department, EV Velu, has directed department officials to expedite ongoing projects and address critical issues affecting government facilities. In a review meeting held on Tuesday, Velu emphasized the need for accelerated progress on key projects such as the Kalaignar International Convention Centre, a new building at Tamil Nadu House in Delhi, and the renovation of Valluvar Kottam.
Velu urged chief engineers to speed up the work on these major projects and also addressed the pressing issue of non-functioning elevators in government hospitals. Noting that several elevators, including those at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Stanley Medical College and Hospital, and Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital, were out of service, he instructed officials to prioritize their repair and restoration.
The minister also highlighted the importance of maintaining high standards of quality in all construction works, including the ongoing development of government employees’ quarters. He stressed that these measures are crucial to improving public infrastructure and ensuring the efficient operation of essential services.
The review meeting was attended by the department’s additional chief secretary, Mangat Ram Sharma, and other senior officials.
