Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated a newly upgraded emergency control centre in Chepauk, Chennai, at a cost of Rs 5.12 crore. The facility, covering an area of 10,000 square feet, features several state-of-the-art components designed to enhance the state’s emergency response capabilities.
The centre is equipped with a control room that includes video conferencing facilities, allowing real-time advisories to be issued to district collectors. Additionally, it houses a 70-seater conference hall for meetings among ministers and officials focused on preparedness, rescue, and relief operations. A call centre within the facility will manage calls received through toll-free helplines 112 and 1070 during emergencies.
The centre is also designed to operate continuously during calamities, with provisions for uninterrupted power supply, telecommunication, and internet services, ensuring it remains functional without any interruptions.
